I had remembered hearing somewhere that a Company called Safelink Wireless would be providing people that receive government assistance with a free cellphone.
Well that sounded great so the other day i decided to investigate the matter a little further and not only did i learn more about Safelink i discovered TWO other companies who were also offering a similar service. Before i get into that though let me just give you a rundown of what Safelink is.
Safelink Wireless is a government supported program that provides people with a free cell phone as well as 80 minutes for it each month. The requirements for receiving this service varies from state to state but as a general idea you have to be receiving some other type of state or federal support (SSI, Social Security, Ect.) or meet the minimum income amount. The service is provided by TracFone Wireless. A very popular prepaid cellphone company.
You can go to SafeLink Wireless to see if you qualify for the service.
The other two companies i discovered were Assurance Wireless, which is provided by Virgin Mobile, and ReachOut Wireless. They both offer pretty much the same deal except for slight differences such as Assurance offers 200 FREE minutes a month instead of 80
To be honest i actually think this is great. It helps elderly or less fortunate people receive the benefits of having a cell phone. These company's are really doing a great thing here and i believe we will see and hear more about them as the days roll by.
If your interested in signing up for one of these great services just click on one of the websites below.
I hope someone can make good use of these.
Regardless of what you want to use your free phone number for (hopefully not for prank calls), heres how you can grab one.
GoogleVoice is our first contestant! It has recently fully released into the public and allows you to get a local phone number for personal and or business use. Some of the great features it offers are providing you with one number that rings you anywhere, free voicemail, free phone calls to the United States & Canada, and tons more! What are you waiting for? Swing by google.com/voice, sign in with an existing google account (if you dont have a google account register one at www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount) and get your free phone number!
Here comes the next contestant! IPKall! An absolutely free Washington State phone number. The website isn't as easy on the eyes, but the service it provides sure is to die for!
The only drawback some people may find with IPKall is it only gives away local Washington State phone numbers, register for one at http://phone.ipkall.com. Not to big of a problem for me personally but to each his own. The main use for the phone number the site provides you is to set it up with a SIP IP Phone such as voipcheap.com or FreeWorldDialup.com.
Last but not least is k7.net. This service provides you with free fax service, voicmail, and voice to email. K7 also only offers Washington State phone numbers but like i said before, who really cares?
Well there ya have it folks, three great websites that offer completely free phone numbers. Jump on and start blowing up the phones with your new number!
